Following the Lord

I have been thinking about how best to explain how we have reached our decision for ministry for the rest of 2020.  We have had a great time reconnecting with family and friends these past couple of months.  It has given us time to draw closer as a family and closer to the Lord.


When we left Lebanon there was a lot of tension growing within the population.  There has been uncertainty within the financial markets, political agendas, and basic services like power, cell phones, and even food.

Rebekah and I were on our first date since getting back and as we were sitting at Lake Ella, our phone started dinging.  This was when we saw the first images coming out of Beirut with the explosion at the port.  Then two weeks ago it was announced that the prime minister that had just risen to power was resigning due to issues working with Hezbollah.

All of this had us questioning where God wanted us to serve in this next season.  After talking to one of my friends in Atlanta, I heard that GFM was in need of some assistance with the missionary training school.  As many of you know, my (Tommy) heart has a passion for discipling believers and preparing them to serve the nations.

At the same time, I was reading through James where he talks about the importance of the rudder in steering the ship.  I can tell you that a ship moored in a slip is not easily steered by the rudder, but a ship that is in motion can be steered easily.  We feel that the same is true with ministry.

We just moved to Clarkston, GA where Tommy will be working in the classroom and Rebekah will primarily be homeschooling and building relationships in the community.  Everything just fell into place quickly and we are excited about being here again.  We have committed to being here until December and possibly longer depending on the leading of the Holy Spirit.  

Please be in prayer that the Lord will make plain the next step for us after December.  The only place that we want to be is in His hands and to serve where he will lead.  There is still so much that we can do in Lebanon, and there are also needs in Clarkston.  Please be in prayer with us.

Part 2- The World divided

Part 2 The World divided The rush to suddenly stop welcoming refugees who only a few months ago were being welcomed with open arms is making my head spin. Can we guarantee that all refugees will be law abiding residents? No. They undergo vigorous interviews and background checks, but there is no way to give people 100% assurance. Can we guarantee that all U.S. born citizens will grow up to become law abiding residents? No. There are untold things that will influence them. There are no guarantees that our citizens won’t leave and join terrorist extremist groups, then return and carry out mass killings. There are no guarantees that our citizens won’t stay and carry out mass killings as lone gunmen. The bottom line is we don’t have any guarantees in this life. We never have. We never will. .....aaaannnndddd cut!

I’ve heard that Atlanta is the new Hollywood, but until now I’ve been living in my international/mom bubble. Recently though the two merged. An episode of 24 was filmed next door to some GFM property, so the girls and I took a field trip to check everything out. Unfortunately, there really wasn’t a whole lot to see. There were a couple of huge semi’s full of equipment blocking our apartment complex and some lighting rigs, but all the action was inside a house in the neighborhood. We could tell there was stuff happening, but I honestly have no idea what the episode will entail. We won’t know right away either. The show will air sometime in February… for now it’s undergoing the editing process. Two days of filming and four months of editing seems like a lot of work for a one hour show (45 minutes once you factor in commercials). Do we allow God to work on us from the inside, editing (or pruning) us? At times it can be difficult. We’ve put work in, only to have it trimmed...
